چکیده

Recursive filtering structures reduce drastically the computational effort required for different tasks in image processing. These operations are done with a fixed number of operations per output point independently of the size of the neighbourhood considered. In this paper we show that implicit numerical implementations of some partial differential equations (PDE’s) provide algorithms that can be interpreted in terms of recursive filters. We show, in particular, that a classical second order recursive filter introduced by one of the authors in [6],[8] is, in fact, a particular implementation of the heat equation. Using the well-known Neumann boundary condition for the heat equation, we propose some new implementation of the filter. We extend this linear filter to a nonlinear recursive smoothing filter, following the general idea of anisotropic diffusion. We present some comparison results with the classical Perona-Malik model.

Histogram Modication via Partial Dierential Equations

The explicit use of partial di erential equations (PDE's) in image processing became a major topic of study in the last years. In this work we present an algorithm for histogram modi cation via PDE's. We show that the histogram can be modi ed to achieve any given distribution. The modi cation can be performed while simultaneously reducing noise. This avoids the noise sharpening e ect in classic...

Image coupling , restoration and enhancement via PDE

We present a new approach based on Partial Differential Equations (PDE) to restore noisy blurred images. After studying the methods to denoise images, staying as close as possible to the input image and methods to restore discontinuities, we will propose a new scheme which combines all this schemes. Quan-tiied numerical test on a synthetic image will demon-state the eeciency of our scheme and t...

Variational principles, surface evolution, PDEs, level set methods, and the stereo problem

We present a novel geometric approach for solving the stereo problem for an arbitrary number of images (= or >2). It is based upon the definition of a variational principle that must be satisfied by the surfaces of the objects in the scene and their images. The Euler-Lagrange equations that are deduced from the variational principle provide a set of partial differential equations (PDE's) that a...

The Combinational Use Of Knowledge-Based Methods and Morphological Image Processing in Color Image Face Detection

The human facial recognition is the base for all facial processing systems. In this work a basicmethod is presented for the reduction of detection time in fixed image with different color levels. The proposed method is the simplest approach in face spatial localization, since it doesn’trequire the dynamics of images and information of the color of skin in image background. Inaddition, to do face...

A Windows-Based User Friendly System for Image Analysis with Partial Differential Equations

In this paper we present and brieey describe a Windows user-friendly system designed to assist with the analysis of images in general, and biomedical images in particular. The system, which is being made publicly available to the research community, implements basic 2D image analysis operations based on partial diierential equations (PDE's). The system is under continuous development, and alrea...
